Rh Scarlet King [griersonianum x Ilam Alarm]

1.8m, M. Free- flowering in huge, round trusses in various shades of scarlet and red. Attractive, dark green pointed lvs. ( Edgar Stead, reg RHS 1958) {Others registered from this cross are ‘Homested’, ‘Ilam Red Glow’, ‘Kaka’, ‘Orchard’ and ‘Pines’.}

Spiced honey

Rh Spiced Honey [macabeanum x Unique] 2m, compact habit, M. Bold foliage, lvs with yellow petiole and grey indumentum below. Trusses of 16-18 campanulate fls apricot in bud, flushed pink on tube, opening barium yellow with deep maroon blotch in base. (R by NZRA and reg by Mr G. Smith, Pukeiti, 1983.) Vigorous, compact habit, M. Foliage dark green, 14 x 6 cm, with light tan indumentum below. Full trusses of 20-21 waxy fls, cardinal red with spotting on upper lobes and 5 dark nectarines in the throat.(Hyb, R amd reg by Mrs G. Masters, Aramaunga, Beaconsfield Rd, Stratford, 1981)  [#60]

Rh Kaka [griersonianum x Ilam Alarm] (syn: ‘Scarlet King Kaka’) Vigorous, lax habit to 2m x 3m, ML. Dark green, heavily veined lanceolate lvs, 12 x 3.5cm, grey-green below. Truss of 12-14 funnel shaped fls, vibrant turkey red with darker spots in throat in full trusses. Frilled lobes, red stigma and style. Prefers some shade.( Hyb by Edgar Stead before 1950, R and reg by Mr G. Smith, Pukeiti, 1985.) Rh Lemon Lodge [‘Prelude’ selfed] 1.5m, M. A medium compact bush, it has huge trusses of primrose-yellow fls with tiny spots in the throat and large light green lvs. Prolific flowering. (Pukeiti Rhododendron Trust, reg RHS 1972.) AD 1983.

Rh Rothesay [ciliicalyx op] 1-1.5m, EM. Eventually a medium sized, dome shaped bush with shining mid-green lvs. Pink buds opening to large white fls, with flushed pink reverse and greenish spotting on the upper lobe. Truss 6-10 flowered. Delicately perfumed. Prefers some shade and shelter from cold winds. (R(first flowered 1971), intro(1973) and reg RHS by Bruce Campbell, 1977) {Rothesay was the early survey name for the part of North-West Harbour, Dunedin where Bruce Campbell lived and had his nursery; now called Ravensbourne.} ref. DRG Bulletin No. 19.

Rh Mary Tasker [Jalisco’ x ‘Fawn’] 1 to 1.5m high and across, ML. Bush attractive and healthy with dense covering of mid-green lvs. Fls dawn pink on outside of carolla and inside petal tips. Naples yellow in from edges with lower part of throat currant red. General effect attractive soft pink with creamy yellow centre nearly to outside with red throat. Floriferous. Loose truss of 9-11 fls, each flower 10-12 cm across, frilled and a little crinkly.  (R and reg  by Mr H. R. Tasker, ‘Saple Homestead’ Ruapuna, Ashburton, RD 5, 1977) [#20].
